The Cycling Federation of Nigeria, CFN, has released its calendar of activities for the 2026 sporting season, featuring local, national and international competitions.
The Secretary General of the Federation, Mr Joel Akinluwa, announced the programme in a letter to directors of sports in the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and cycling club owners nationwide.
He urged sports administrators and sponsors to align with the calendar in order to adequately prepare athletes for the scheduled events.
The 2026 season will open with a Union Cycliste Internationale sanctioned online Level One coaching course on January 26.
According to the federation, the programme includes eleven international championships, including the Confederation of African Cycling Africa Track and Para-Track Championship scheduled to hold in Abuja in May.
Other major events include the Commonwealth Games holding in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, and the UCI Para-Cycling Road Championship in the United States in September.
The calendar will also feature several national competitions across the country.
The year’s activities will be rounded off with the National Sports Festival, which will be hosted for the first time in Enugu in December.
The Cycling Federation says the calendar is designed to improve athlete development and strengthen Nigeria’s presence on the international cycling stage.
