The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has directed Nigeria’s service chiefs to visit the North-East and North-West to review and strengthen ongoing military operations in response to rising insecurity in the regions.
The directive was issued during a meeting with the service chiefs at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja, where the minister expressed concern over recent attacks on military formations and communities.
According to the minister’s media adviser, Timothy Antigha, the service chiefs are expected to assess the security situation in the affected areas and submit reports with recommendations for improved operational strategies.
Recent weeks have witnessed increased attacks by terrorist groups in parts of the North-East and North-West, including assaults on military bases that resulted in casualties among security personnel.
The Defence Ministry said the review is aimed at strengthening coordination, improving operational effectiveness and enhancing the military’s response to evolving security threats in the regions.
