The Department of State Services has detained five security personnel over their alleged involvement in the airport incident surrounding the return of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to Nigeria on February 12.
In a statement, the DSS said a joint investigation involving the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service and the Federal Ministry of Aviation uncovered breaches of security protocol at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The agency alleged that some officers received bribes to facilitate unauthorized access to restricted areas and obstruct lawful security operations.
Those detained have been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission for prosecution, while other officials found to have committed non-criminal infractions are to face administrative sanctions.
The DSS stated that the measures are part of efforts to uphold the integrity of airport security procedures and ensure accountability in the management of national security operations.
El-Rufai, who has denied wrongdoing, has described the developments as politically motivated.
