The Ekiti State Amotekun Corps has arrested sixteen suspected Fulani herdsmen believed to be involved in cattle rustling and fleeing from Kwara State.
According to a statement by the Director of Information of the Corps, Mr Abiodun Adeleye, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence reports from residents of Isan community in Oye Local Government Area.
The statement said the suspects were sighted with cattle around the Gede Farm settlement in Isan-Ekiti, a development that caused panic among residents and prompted the deployment of additional Amotekun operatives to the area.
Upon interrogation, the suspects reportedly confessed to fleeing Kwara State due to intensified security operations against banditry and admitted involvement in cattle rustling.
Items recovered from them include cash, seven mobile phones, charms, three Vigilante Group of Nigeria identity cards, and several heads of cattle.
The suspects have been handed over to the Rapid Response Squad of the Ekiti State Police Command in Ado-Ekiti for further investigation and prosecution.
