Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, says the All Progressives Congress, APC, will not rule Nigeria forever and may be voted out in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai made the remark while addressing the 23rd Daily Trust Dialogue, themed “Nigeria’s Fourth Republic: What Is Working and What Is Not.”
He noted that Nigeria does not have a permanent ruling party, recalling that the Peoples Democratic Party governed for sixteen years before losing power in 2015.
According to him, the possibility of a change in government shows that political power in Nigeria remains open to competition.
However, El-Rufai said political competition has not yet translated into accountability or good governance, adding that political parties in the country are weak and driven more by personalities than ideology.
The former governor, who spoke virtually from Belgium where he is recovering from illness, apologised for his absence at the event in Abuja.
