An Arik Air flight en route to Port Harcourt from Lagos was on Wednesday diverted to Benin Airport following an engine-related alert.
In a statement signed by the airline’s Public Relations and Communications Manager, Mr. Adebanji Ola, the aircraft, a Boeing 737-700 with registration number 5N-MJF operating as Flight W3 740, was approaching Port Harcourt when the crew detected an unusual sound from the left engine.
As a precautionary measure, the pilot diverted the aircraft to Benin, where it landed safely.
All 80 passengers on board disembarked without injury.
The airline says arrangements have been made to convey the affected passengers to their final destinations, while apologizing for the disruption.
Arik Air reaffirmed that passenger safety remains its top priority.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that further details on the cause of the engine issue are yet to be disclosed.
