The Federal High Court in Abuja has remanded former Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, his wife, Asabe, and son, Abubakar Abdulazeez Malami, following their re-arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a ₦8.7 billion corruption charge.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered Malami and his son to be taken to Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja, while his wife was directed to Suleja Prison, Niger State.
The order came after the defendants’ pleas were taken on Thursday.
Although Malami’s counsel, Joseph Daudu SAN, requested the court to adopt bail conditions previously granted by Justice Emeka Nwite on January 7, Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the prior bail was no longer valid and directed that fresh bail applications be filed.
Attempts to seek oral bail were rejected.
The court scheduled arguments on the bail applications and trial to commence on March 6.
The case highlights ongoing EFCC investigations into high-profile corruption allegations and underscores judicial insistence on procedural compliance in the handling of bail and trial matters.
