Former Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mike Igini, has cautioned that proposed changes to the electoral process could put presiding officers at serious risk during the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview with ARISE NEWS, Igini highlighted concerns over the reintroduction of a new version of the “Incident Form,” which could be misused in areas with limited network connectivity.
He warned that such discretionary powers may expose presiding officers often young election officials or corps members to threats and confrontations from voters if results appear delayed or disputed.
Igini urged authorities to carefully consider the safety implications of the proposed amendments and ensure that the electoral process remains inclusive, transparent, and secure for all officers on duty.
