An expectant mother has died after receiving treatment at an illegal medical facility in Ondo State.
Police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Olushola Abayomi, said the woman was rushed for medical intervention but was later confirmed dead.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects operating the facility are not registered medical practitioners and that the clinic was being run illegally.
The police said the suspects were engaged in medical quackery, which allegedly led to the woman’s death.
Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the probe.
DSP Abayomi warned members of the public against patronising unregistered and illegal medical facilities, urging residents to always seek medical care from licensed and certified health institutions.
He also appealed to the public to provide credible information that could help identify and arrest individuals involved in medical quackery, assuring that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Police Command has also arrested a 25-year-old man, Nasiru Idris, for operating an illegal clinic in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area.
Police said medical items, including injection needles, drips, bandages and other kits, were recovered from the facility and the suspect’s residence.
The police confirmed that the suspect is not a registered medical practitioner and that the clinic was operated illegally.
