The family of Ihotu John Rebecca, a Nigerian female footballer, has appealed for urgent assistance following her abduction along the Benin Expressway.
Rebecca, who plays for Pacesetter Queens FC in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership, was reportedly kidnapped while returning home.
Her abductors are said to be demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for her release.
The incident has sparked concern within the domestic football community, as the young player is known for her commitment to women’s football at the top tier of the national league.
Her family is calling on security agencies to intensify efforts to secure her safe release.
They have also appealed to football stakeholders, club officials, sponsors, government authorities and well-meaning Nigerians for support during the ordeal.
