As part of measures to sustain the existing peace among communities affected by demolition in the nation’s capital, the FCT Public Complaints Commission has held an intervention meeting with District Heads of the affected communities.
Addressing the District Heads during the meeting in Abuja, the Federal Commissioner representing the FCT in Public Complaints Commission, Mr Musa Dikko said the meeting was to address complains concerning the issues of demolition in the Territory.
Mr Musa Dikko who described the District Heads as intermediary between the people and the Government advised them to always embrace dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts for the progress of their communities.
He stated that the Commission in the last one year had eight thousand cases and treated four thousand pointing out that the Commission would this year organize awareness campaign for traditional rulers in the FCT on its activities and mandate towards minimizing complains and cases in the Territory
According to him, the Commission is the moving vehicle for the National Assembly towards to enhance good governance through conflict resolution in the country.
In his words “We have received the mandate of the National Assembly not to listen and receive complains only but to be proactive in stopping complains”
While soliciting the support of the District Heads in the activities of the Public Complaints Commission reiterated the commitment of the Commission towards effective representation of residents of the FCT.
On their part, some of the District Heads, Musa Barde from Galadimawa and that of Garki , Yakubu Stephen who attended the meeting commended the FCT Public Complaints Commission for intervening on the issues of demolition as it affect their communities.
They therefore appealed to the Government to always consider the plights of the original inhabitants affected by demolition in the FCT.
The meeting which featured sensitization lecture on the activities and mandate of the Commission was attended by eleven District Heads in the FCT
