The FCT Workers’ Union has expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling of the National Industrial Court on January 27, 2026, in the matter between the Minister of the FCT/FCTA and the workers.
This is contained in a statement signed by Acting General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Benson Upah in Abuja.
The statement says the court ruling, which includes the suspension of the ongoing strike and an adjournment until March 25, 2026, has left many workers disheartened.
It states that while acknowledging the court’s authority, the union expressed displeasure over the court’s failure to address ongoing violations by the Minister/FCTA, particularly the non-remittance of National Housing Fund (NHF) and pension fund deductions, both of which carry severe penalties under Nigerian law.
According to the statement, the union condemned the long adjournment and lack of immediate relief for workers, describing the court’s response as inadequate.
It stresses that the Minister’s immediate threats to sack workers following the ruling further fueled tensions.
The union is urging workers to remain steadfast and vigilant, emphasizing that justice must be done, not only in the court of law but also in the treatment of workers.
The statement also warns institutions violating the Pension Fund and NHF laws to expect serious engagement.
It calls for the continued unity and resolve of FCT workers in the face of these challenges.
