As part of measures to safeguard Government’s assets in the nation’s capital, the Federal Capital Territory Administration has approved about eight hundred million naira insurance coverage for all critical public assets and facilities in the Territory.
This was one of the outcomes of first FCTA Executive Committee meeting in 2025 presided over by the Minister of FCT, Nyesom Wike in Abuja.
Briefing newsmen at the end of the meeting, the FCTA Head of Service, Mrs Grace Adayilo who presented the Memo for the insurance coverage, explained that the measure would safeguard the national assets in FCT against various risks including damage, loss or disruption.
According to Mrs Adayilo, the insurance memorandum is a Federal Government directive aimed at ensuring government business continuity by way of minimizing financial losses in the event of unforeseen incidents.
Also speaking, Chief of Staff to the FCT Minister, Chidi Amadi who corroborated that the insurance coverage became necessary at such a time, noted that six Memos were approved out of the twelve presented.
On his part, the Director, Department of Security Services, Mr Adamu Gwary stated that the EXCO also gave approval for the construction of police divisional headquarters and officers’ quarters in Kuje, Gwagwalada, and Kwali Area Councils to the tune of ₦3.648 billion to further enhance safety and security of residents in the territory.
Moreso, the Coordinator of Sattelite Towns Development Department, STDD, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said the EXCO gave approval for the construction of a 33KV power supply line from Dawaki to Bwari and the installation of solar powered street lights along Arab Road and other adjoining roads as well as the ratification of award of contracts for the construction of multi-event sports centers in Abuja.
The approval of the combined multi- billion naira projects and insurance of national assets was geared towards building a world class Capital City that every Nigerians would be proud of.
