The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has approved N1.1 billion for the emergency procurement of communication gadgets and equipment for security agencies, alongside N7.3 billion for waste collection and management services across key districts in the Federal Capital City.
The approvals were granted at the FCT Executive Committee meeting chaired by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, in Abuja.
According to the FCTA Director of Procurement, Mr. Musa Onsachi, the security intervention is designed to address critical communication gaps identified since August 2023 and strengthen operational efficiency among security agencies in the territory.
The move aligns with ongoing efforts by the administration to enhance logistics and improve coordinated responses to security challenges.
In July 2024, the Minister had earlier provided operational vehicles fitted with communication gadgets to reinforce crime-fighting operations in the FCT.
In a related development, the Executive Committee ratified N7.3 billion contracts for waste collection and management in four districts, Durumi, Wuye, Mabushi and Jabi.
The contracts are aimed at improving environmental sanitation, public health outcomes, and service delivery standards within the capital city.
The committee also approved diesel supply to the Wupa Basic Waste Treatment Plant for two years to ensure uninterrupted operations.
Additionally, the council approved the procurement of food and non-food relief materials to support residents affected by flooding in parts of the FCT, underscoring the administration’s commitment to responsive governance and emergency preparedness.
