The Federal Fire Service has launched a nationwide fire safety campaign, aims at preventing fire-related incidents and road accidents during Ramadan.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Mr. Abdulganiyu Jaji, in Abuja.
The statement highlights that Ramadan, a period of fasting, prayer, and reflection, often involves preparing meals late at night (for suhoor) and in the evening (for iftar).
It says these unique routines, coupled with fatigue and distractions, can significantly raise the risk of kitchen fires.
“Fasting can sometimes affect concentration levels due to hunger, tiredness, and dehydration. When combined with busy kitchens during iftar preparations, the risk of fire accidents becomes even higher,” he states.
The Controller of the Federal Fire Service stresses the need for extra vigilance, especially while cooking.
The statement advises Nigerians not to leave cooking unattended and to always turn off stoves or gas cookers if they must step away.
It adds that the Controller General Federal of the Fire Service urges Nigerians to contact the service immediately during a fire incident and avoiding risky attempts to extinguish large fires without professional help.
