The Federal Government has unveiled a $552 million HOPE for Quality Basic Education for All (HOPE-EDU) programme to accelerate reforms and strengthen Nigeria’s basic education system.
In a statement issued in Abuja by the Federal Ministry of Education, the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, described the initiative as a major milestone under the Nigeria Education Sector Renewal Initiative.
He said the programme is structured to deliver measurable, transparent and results-based improvements in foundational learning and access to quality education.
According to the minister, the activation of the $552 million funding within 12 months marks the fastest mobilisation of education financing of its scale in the country’s history.
He added that federal allocation to education has risen by over 302 per cent since 2022, with N3.520 trillion earmarked for the sector in the 2026 fiscal year the highest allocation to date.
The programme, co-financed by the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education, is expected to improve foundational learning outcomes, expand equitable access and strengthen institutional accountability across participating states.
Government says the intervention underscores its commitment to human capital development and system-wide education reform.
