The Federal Government has announced plans to fast-track the trial of over five thousand suspected insurgents as part of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts across the country.
Authorities say the initiative will leverage intelligence from correctional and detention facilities, law enforcement agencies, and the Directorate of Intelligence.
Advanced measures, including DNA profiling, are expected to strengthen investigations, help identify repeat offenders, and dismantle terrorist networks operating across regions.
In the North-West, the Theatre Commander of Operation Fansan Yamma, Major General Warrah Idris, said notorious bandit leader Bello Turji is reportedly in panic as intensified military operations close in on him and other armed group leaders.
Meanwhile, trials linked to Turji continue at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where defendants are being prosecuted for alleged terrorism-related offences, including providing logistical support, weapons, and medical aid to terrorist groups.
Some of the suspects remain at large.
In support of counter-insurgency and internal security operations, the 2026 Appropriation Bill has earmarked over N204 billion for security agencies.
The largest share, N100 billion, is for military operations, including Operation Hadin Kai.
The Nigeria Police Force will receive N50 billion, the Department of State Service N30 billion, and the NSCDC N15 billion, with additional funds allocated for security overhead costs at the Office of the National Security Adviser.
Authorities have stressed that these measures are part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance national security and bring insurgents to justice.
