The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to stabilising farm input prices as part of efforts to boost food production and ensure national food security.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, stated this at the end of a two-day working visit to Nasarawa State, where he inspected and inaugurated several agricultural projects, including a Rice Processing Centre in Ashangwa village, Lafia Local Government Area.
Senator Kyari said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is focused on building a strong economy, with agriculture as a key driver.
He assured farmers that steps are being taken to reduce the high cost of farm inputs, noting that affordable production is essential for achieving lower food prices.
Dr Fatima Aliyu, National Coordinator of the Value Chain Development Programme, explained that smallholder farmers across the nine implementing states are now using modern farming methods, with women, youths, and persons with disabilities actively participating in food production.
Beneficiary farmers, including Mr Jonathan Joshua, said the programme has provided tools and inputs to improve rice production, and the Minister’s visit has motivated them to intensify efforts for increased food output.
