The Federal Government will next month begin malaria vaccination in Bauchi and Edo States, targeting vulnerable groups, particularly women and children, to curb the impact of the disease.
The Executive Chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, made this known at a news conference in Bauchi.
He explained that the vaccination programme is being rolled out gradually due to limited vaccine availability, with Bauchi and Edo States selected for the second phase of the exercise.
Dr Mohammed also revealed that the Bauchi State Government plans to conduct health tests for food vendors across the state, including restaurants and roadside operators, to protect residents against typhoid and other food-borne illnesses.
The exercise aims to ensure food vendors meet health standards, while also safeguarding public health through proactive disease prevention.
He urged residents and food business operators to cooperate with the authorities during the testing and vaccination programmes.
