President Bola Tinubu has directed the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETfund to provide funds for the completion of the first phase of the National Library on or before June this year.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa made this known during an inspection of the National Library Headquarters in Abuja.
He said the present administration prioritised the funding of the project which had been a major challenge since it was designed forty-one years ago.
Dr. Alausa explained that the project would be completed in phases.
“We are dividing it in phases. First phase we move to site on or before June of 2025. Let me tell you what the first phase entails, basement level one, basement level two, ground floor, first floor, second floor and all the external work”
“We will finish all the perimeter work, all the aesthetic part of this building” he said
The National Librarian, Professor Chinwe Anunobi said they would work effectively to meet the deadline for the completion of the project.
The Federal government commenced construction of the National Library Headquarters in 2006 during the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo but was abandoned in 2012.
