The Kwara State Fire Service has successfully contained a night fire outbreak at the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin, preventing extensive damage to critical facilities.
According to a statement by the Head of Media of the Service, Hassan Adekunle, the fire affected a building housing four offices used as stores, with three of the offices impacted by the blaze.
However, the swift and coordinated response of firefighters prevented the fire from spreading to the nearby Biology Laboratory and other surrounding structures.
Items destroyed in the incident included documents, files, and journals, though several important records were recovered due to the prompt intervention of the fire crew.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have originated from undergrowth set ablaze by an unknown individual, which later spread to the building.
The Fire Service has therefore cautioned institutions and members of the public against indiscriminate bush burning, particularly around educational facilities.
