The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has called for urgent global reforms to promote economic equity, peace, and security at the ongoing G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Johannesburg.
Speaking at the event, Tuggar congratulated South Africa on assuming the G20 Presidency and pledged Nigeria’s support for its priorities, including disaster resilience, debt sustainability, and a just energy transition.
He urged the G20 to strengthen mechanisms for conflict resolution, humanitarian assistance, and African-led peace initiatives.
The minister also stressed the need for a holistic approach to combating terrorism, combining security efforts with investments in education, healthcare, and job creation.
Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s call for reforms in multilateral institutions, saying the current system does not adequately represent developing nations.
He also highlighted tax justice and the fight against illicit financial flows, urging global action to curb capital flight and tax evasion.
The minister emphasized that solidarity and sustainability must guide global policies, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to working with international partners for a fairer world.
