Former Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Dumebi Kachikwu, has expressed deep concern over what he describes as the growing trend of public hostility toward government institutions and officials in the country.
Mr. Kachikwu, who addressed journalists in Abuja, drew from a recent incident involving his construction site and the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
He explained that a Director from the FCTA was denied access to his site on a Sunday, leading to a stop-work order and a subsequent visit by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
According to Mr. Kachikwu, after reviewing the necessary documents, the Minister apologized, admitting that he had received incorrect information from his staff.
He used the incident to comment on the ongoing controversy between Minister Wike and Officer Yerima, stating that what he called a “vocal minority” was fueling unnecessary outrage against the Minister.
He argued that the same critics ignored the officer’s verbal attack on police personnel, whom he described as “bloody policemen”
The former ADC Presidential Candidate questioned the moral and legal basis of a retired General issuing directives to a serving military officer against the authority of a sitting Minister of the Federal Republic.

Mr. Kachikwu also accused Nigerians of selective outrage, noting the silence that followed the recent shooting of police officers by soldiers returning from election duty in Anambra State.
He warned that growing hatred for government institutions including the police, the presidency, and ministers poses a threat to the nation’s stability.
According to him, such attitudes could embolden security agencies to trample on citizens’ rights.
Describing the situation as “an Animal Farm called Nigeria,” Mr. Kachikwu said Nigerians are encouraging an environment where some people believe they are above the law.
He concluded by praying for unity and peace in the country.
