The former Chairman of Kajuru Local Government Area, Mr. Ibrahim Gajere, has been confirmed dead following an attack on travellers returning from a burial ceremony in Dogon Noma community, Maro Ward, Kajuru LGA of Kaduna State.
Gunmen suspected to be terrorists reportedly ambushed the convoy on Monday, setting ablaze the official vehicle of the current council chairman and three other cars.
In the aftermath of the attack, Mr. Gajere was declared missing, prompting a search by residents and community members.
His body was discovered on Wednesday in a nearby bush with reported bullet wounds, according to local sources.
The killing has deepened tension in the area, coming shortly after another attack in a neighbouring community left two persons dead.
Residents have called on security agencies to intensify operations across the Kajuru axis to curb recurring violence and restore confidence among communities.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kaduna State Police Command and the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
