The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a targeted enforcement campaign, “Operation Safe Kugbo,” to improve traffic flow and reduce road crashes along the AYA–Nyanya–Kugbo corridor in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The initiative focuses on restricting the movement of articulated vehicles and heavy-duty trucks during peak hours, a measure aimed at addressing congestion and the rising incidence of road traffic crashes in the area.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the operation followed a strategic assessment of safety challenges along the busy corridor.
He noted that the intervention aligns with the National Road Traffic Regulations and the FCT Traffic framework, as well as the Corps’ 2026 goal of creating safer road environments through proactive enforcement.
On the first day of the exercise, enforcement teams in Nyanya restricted 89 articulated vehicles from operating during peak periods, with full compliance recorded from drivers and transport operators.
The Corps emphasized that the operation reflects a broader policy shift toward data-driven and preventive road safety strategies, urging stakeholders—particularly truck operators—to comply with traffic regulations.
FRSC reaffirmed that sustained enforcement under Operation Safe Kugbo will remain central to efforts to enhance road safety and ensure smoother vehicular movement across the FCT.
