Nasarawa state government is to set up an administrative committee towards finding lasting solution to the lingering communal crises in Afo Land of Nasarawa local government area of the state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule announced this after an on the spot assessment to three communities recently affected by communal violence in which lives were lost and property worth millions destroyed.
Governor Sule also declared the disbandment of the two factional leaders suspected to be responsible for the crises as part of measures to ensure the return of peace in the area.
The Governor said two representatives from both warring factions would be selected to be part of the peace committee expected to be chaired by a retired senior military personnel.
He commended the prompt response of security agencies for preventing escalation of the crisis beyond control noting that the visit was to assess the level of destruction and ways to provide succour to those affected by the recent violence that erupted in the area.
The crisis in Afo land which started about three years ago over chieftaincy tittle between members of one ethnic group had resulted in the displacement of thousands of citizens from their ancestral homes.
