Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has briefed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the security challenges and development priorities of the state, during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting, came amid speculations of a possible political realignment in Kano, but government officials say the engagement was strictly focused on governance, security and development issues.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the governor’s visit was to formally update the President on pressing challenges and emerging opportunities in the state, particularly the worsening insecurity in some local government areas.
“Governor Yusuf informed President Tinubu of the recent tragic killing of a housewife and her children, describing the incident as a reminder of the urgent need for strengthened security operations to protect innocent citizens”
It highlights the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in supporting conventional security agencies and calls for closer collaboration with federal security institutions to enhance intelligence gathering and rapid response.
According to the statement, the governor also outlined Kano State’s development agenda, with emphasis on ongoing and proposed mega infrastructure projects aimed at boosting economic growth and job creation.
It expresses appreciation to President Tinubu for the Federal Government’s intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project, describing it as a critical infrastructure corridor for trade, mobility and regional development.
The statement further explains that the governor sought the President’s support in fast-tracking other federal projects in the state and ensuring Kano benefits fully from federal programmes and investments.
According to the statement, President Tinubu assures the Kano State Government of the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with the state to tackle insecurity and promote sustainable development.
