Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has issued a stern warning to promoters of the Aba Commercial Smart City (ACSC) project, stressing the need for seriousness before the official flag-off.
Governor Otti expressed his readiness to support the project but emphasized that work must commence with contractors mobilized to the site for weeks or months before the formal launch.
He cautioned against the abandonment of the project after it is flagged off.
The ACSC, Nigeria’s first integrated smart commercial city, is set to be located in Arongwa, Osisioma Local Government Area, along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway.
The project will feature residential buildings, schools, retail and wholesale shops, industrial sites, a 4-star hotel, and a hospital, powered by a consortium of investors.
Governor Otti highlighted the importance of ensuring that all requirements are met before the flag-off.
He reiterated that his administration’s approach aims to prevent the common pitfall of abandoned projects by investors.
At a press conference in Umuahia, the Group Managing Director/Chairman of the ACSC, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, described the project as a transformative initiative that would make Abia State a key player in Africa’s commerce and industrial revolution.
The smart city aims to modernize Aba’s trade ecosystem, create jobs, and provide infrastructure such as 24/7 power, smart waste systems, and modern housing.
The project has garnered significant support, with investors ready to restore Aba’s status as the commercial and industrial hub of Nigeria.
Governor Otti’s Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, commended the initiative, highlighting its alignment with the administration’s goal of making Abia a top investment destination.
