The newly appointed Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has removed the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, less than 24 hours after assuming office.
According to reports, the decision was taken on Thursday as part of ongoing internal restructuring within the Nigeria Police Force.
Sources at the Force Headquarters confirmed that Hundeyin’s removal came barely six months after he was appointed to the role by former Inspector-General, Kayode Egbetokun.
The development follows the recent appointment of Disu as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after the removal of Egbetokun, who had served in the position since 2023.
Police sources say the change is part of routine adjustments that often accompany the emergence of a new police leadership.
However, the Force is yet to announce a replacement for the position.
Hundeyin, who hails from Badagry in Lagos State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from the University of Ibadan.
He has also undergone professional training at the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Training Centre in Kaduna.
Before his appointment as Force PRO, Hundeyin served as Police Public Relations Officer at Zone 2 Command Headquarters in Lagos and participated in the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur in 2020.
The Police High Command has not yet issued an official statement on the development.
