The All Progressives Congress, APC Leaders Forum, has called on the National Assembly to take over the legislative functions of the Rivers State House of Assembly amid ongoing impeachment threats against Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The forum says the Assembly has lost credibility and public trust, accusing it of abusing legislative powers and deliberately attempting to destabilise democratic governance in the state.
In a statement by its National Leader, Ibrahim Danjuma, and Secretary, Akpan Ekpeyong, the group warned that Rivers State is drifting into a constitutional crisis, stressing that the impeachment process lacks any evidence of gross misconduct as required by law.
The forum commended the Rivers State Chief Judge for refusing to constitute a probe panel, describing the decision as a defence of the rule of law and respect for existing court orders.
It accused the Assembly of procedural lawlessness, vendetta politics and disregard for judicial authority, insisting that such actions have rendered the lawmakers incapable of performing their constitutional duties.
The APC Leaders Forum is therefore urging the National Assembly to invoke Section 11, Subsection 4 of the 1999 Constitution and assume the legislative functions of the Rivers State Assembly to restore order and stability.
The group further alleged that 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike are behind the crisis and called on Nigerians to peacefully mobilise and resist what it described as legislative anarchy.
They maintained that Governor Fubara has demonstrated commitment to good governance and warned that Rivers State must not be sacrificed to political desperation.
