The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, says it has concluded all arrangements for the conduct of by-elections into the Kano State House of Assembly for Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Area constituencies.
The by-elections became necessary following the death of the two lawmakers who represented the affected constituencies, resulting in vacancies in the state legislature.
Speaking to journalists in Kano, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdullahi Zango, disclosed that over ten political parties have indicated interest and will participate in the exercise.
Ambassador Zango assured that INEC is fully prepared for the polls, adding that logistics and other arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth, credible, and hitch-free election.
He urged eligible voters in the affected areas to turn out in large numbers on election day to exercise their civic responsibility, assuring them of a level playing field for all contestants.
The by-elections, according to INEC, will restore representation to the affected constituencies and strengthen democratic governance at the grassroots level.
