The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has warned officials of the Nigerian Immigration Service against collecting fees beyond the officially approved charges for Nigerian passports.
The minister gave the warning during an unannounced visit to the Immigration passport office in Gwagwalada, Abuja.
He expressed dissatisfaction over delays in attending to applicants, especially at the VIP and Children Section, which is meant for fast-track services.
Tunji-Ojo noted that inefficiency in service delivery would no longer be tolerated, stressing that Nigerians have already paid fully for their passports.
He warned officials not to demand extra money for items such as diesel or paper and urged them to serve citizens with diligence and professionalism.
The minister said passport applicants deserve timely and efficient service in line with government policy.
