Interpol’s global operation targeting human traffickers and migrant smugglers has led to the arrest of more than 3,700 suspects and the protection of over 4,400 potential victims.
The operation, known as Operation Liberterra III, took place between November 10 and 21, involving 14,000 officers across 119 countries.
The crackdown resulted in 3,744 arrests and the detection of nearly 13,000 people caught in illegal migration schemes.
Authorities also initiated 720 new investigations into trafficking activities.
Interpol noted an emerging shift in trafficking patterns, with increasing numbers of South Americans and Asians being trafficked in Africa, unlike the past, when African victims were more commonly trafficked abroad.
Trafficking hotspots were identified in West and Central Africa, particularly in countries like Senegal, Ghana, and Côte d’Ivoire, where over 200 victims were rescued.
The operation highlighted the evolving tactics of criminal networks exploiting digital platforms and vulnerable populations.
Interpol continues to work to disrupt these networks and protect victims worldwide.
