The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution IPCR has announced plans to train one million Nigerian youths in basic conflict management as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations.
Director General of the Institute, Dr. Joseph Ochogwu, made this known while receiving executive members of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria, DICAN, on a courtesy visit in Abuja.
He described the initiative as a milestone, emphasizing that the digital training would be free, with participants only needing internet access to complete courses and obtain certification.
Dr. Ochogwu noted that the programme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, addressing national concerns such as inclusion, security, and foreign policy.
He also highlighted the critical role of the media in conflict resolution, stressing that no societal change can be achieved without media involvement.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria, Mr. Idehai Frederick, expressed the association’s willingness to collaborate with the Institute.
He emphasized DICAN’s broad representation across print, electronic, online, and wire services, ensuring balanced coverage of Nigeria’s diplomatic landscape.
He further underscored the professionalism of diplomatic correspondents, stating that diplomacy requires decorum and expertise, which journalists must uphold in their reporting.
