The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting women’s participation in politics and leadership as Nigeria marks the 2026 International Women’s Day.
This is contained in a statement signed by the its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja
The statement says Nigerian women continue to play vital roles in the nation’s social and economic development but remain underrepresented in many leadership positions.
According to the statement, the party notes that empowering women and expanding their participation in governance are essential to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and achieving inclusive national development.
It states that its constitution reserves 40 percent of all party positions for women, describing the policy as part of deliberate efforts to ensure women are actively involved in decision-making within the party.
It also stresses that a nation cannot reach its full potential when half of its population is underrepresented in political leadership.
The ADC therefore called on more Nigerian women to participate actively in politics and join the party in efforts to build a more inclusive and democratic society.
