The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has hailed Nigerian women for their strides in socio-econmic and political development of the country.
This is contained in a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, NNPP, Ladipo Johnson in Abuja, to mark this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD),
The statement notes that womenfolk have, in particular, made an impact in leadership and innovation.
It stresses that equity and gender sensitivity were a major interest to the women and called for due support in this regard in their daily quest for a better life.
“While the NNPP observed that Nigerian women have over the years been recognized for their impact in the socio-economic and political space, it, nonetheless, claimed that women now deserve greater fellowship in the power equation and opportunities.
The statement adds that this year’s celebration of women and their rights was most remarkable coming 30 years after the Beijing Declaration, which emphasizes women’s rights and empowerment as basic to a better and more equitable society.
“Of course, the salient issues are tied to this year’s theme: “Accelerate Action” which calls for greater integration of women’s interests and causes in major policies and programmes of the government and other relevant institutions”.
“Empowerment of our women is empowerment of society because of their crucial roles in the family and society,”Johnson adds.
