Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has pledged to implement more policies that will boost agricultural production and other aspects of the agric value chain in the state.
He stated this in Dutse at a grand ceremony organized by the National Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, where it confered on him the Diamond Prize of Excellence in Food Security.

Governor Umar Namadi explained that one of the strategic development objectives of the state government was ensuring sustained agricultural production with a view to providing employment opportunities in the state.
He noted that the agricultural transformation drive was also aimed at ensuring food security and economic diversification in the state.
Governor Namadi pointed out that the state government’s priority on agriculture has made the state a leading producer of some food and cash crops in the country which include wheat, rice, sesame and hibiscus.
He said these efforts have also made the state a major contributor to national food security and diversification of the national economy.
He explained that developing the agric sector aligns with the Sustainable Development Goal ending hunger, achieving food security improving food nutrition and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Namadi thanked NIPR for the award and pledged to initiate more policies that will transform the agric sector in the state.
Earlier, the NIPR President and Chairman of Council, Dr. Ike Neliaku, said the NIPR award was aimed at encouraging good governance at different levels of government.
He lauded the governor on initiatives that have strengthened food security which has also provided thousands of jobs along the agriculture value chain.
