One of the victims of the recent mass abduction in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State has narrated how he escaped from bandits who stormed churches during Sunday worship.
Gunmen invaded Kurmin Wali community on January 18, abducting worshippers from several churches during morning services.
Community leaders say a total of 177 persons were taken into the bush.
A survivor, Joseph Bawa, said the attackers beat and robbed worshippers before marching them through the forest.
He explained that he escaped after being left behind while crossing a river due to exhaustion.
Another resident, Linus Gwom, said 38 members of his extended family, including his wife and children, were abducted, leaving only three persons behind in his household.
Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has visited the affected community, sympathised with residents and assured them that security agencies are working to secure the release of the abducted persons.
As at the time of this report, community leaders say 166 worshippers remain in captivity, while injured victims are receiving medical and psychosocial care in Kaduna.
