Kaduna Electric Distribution Company, KAEDCO, has flagged off the installation of free prepaid electricity meters in Samaru community, Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The initiative is part of efforts to eliminate estimated billing and promote transparency in electricity consumption.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Head of the Metering Project, Abba Ali Maiborno, said the programme is being implemented under the World Bank-supported Strategic Renewable Energy Programme in collaboration with the Federal Government and supervised by the Transmission Company of Nigeria Project Management Unit.
He explained that the project is aimed at ensuring customers are properly metered to enhance accountability and improve revenue collection across the power value chain.
Maiborno noted that about 5,000 meters have been delivered to Zamfara as the first batch, while Kaduna Electric is expected to receive a total of 73,050 meters under the project.
He added that 25,000 meters are scheduled to arrive by February, with full nationwide completion expected by May 2026.
He assured residents that the meters and installation are completely free and have been certified by the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency, urging customers to cooperate with installation teams.
Responding on behalf of the benefiting community, Alhaji Sani Banker commended the initiative and pledged full support for its success.
