Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State has approved the constitution of a high-powered committee to investigate the abandoned Kebbi State Governor’s Lodge and Hotel project in Kaduna.
The approval was conveyed through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, following concerns over the long-abandoned contract, which was initiated during a past military administration.
The committee is mandated to determine the legal status of the project and establish whether the contractor reconciled with the state government after the contract was revoked, as earlier advised by the then Solicitor-General.
It is also expected to ascertain the current condition of the project, investigate the reasons for its abandonment, and identify both the original and revised contract sums.
The committee is chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi.
Other members include the Special Adviser on Due Process, Surajo Garba Bagudo; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Lands and Housing, Ahmad Umar Yarima; and the Director of Architecture and Building, Ministry of Works.
The Director of EXCO, Kabiru Hassan Wasagu, will serve as Secretary.
The committee has been given two weeks to submit its report to the state government.
