About 3,000 energy-saving cooking stoves have been distributed to women by the Kwara Agro-Climate Resilience in Semi -Arid Landscapes (KWACReSAL) across the 16 local government area of the State.
The State Project Coordinator, of ACReSAL, Alhaji Shamsideen Aregbe, made this known when he hosted spouses of local government chairmen led by wife of the chairman of Edu local government, Hajiya Ramat AbdulMalik, in illorin.
He said the project is committed to the restoration of degraded landscapes, environmental sustainability, and food security.
He explained that the distribution of energy saving cooking stoves to women in rural communities is a step to discourage people from cutting down trees in the forests, adding that it has serious implications for climate change.
Alhaji Aregbe said the project is now raising awareness on the use of briquettes, an eco-friendly charcoal made from waste products.
He noted that the project liased with the local government chairmen to ensure the cooking stoves were given to deserving beneficiaries.
Alhaji Aregbe assured that the state ACReSAL project will collaborate with the spouses of Local Government Chairmen to build climate resilience, healthy and safer environment in the state.
Responding, the wife of the Edu Local Government Chairman, Hajiya Ramat Abdulmalik, appreciated the Kwara ACReSAL for prioritizing women in its programmes.
She called for future collaborations between their Association and KWACReSAL in impacting the lives of the people, especially women, at the grassroots.
