Political appointees loyal to former Kano State Governor and NNPP leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have continued to resign their appointments in the Kano State Government following Governor Abba Yusuf’s resignation from the party.
The development is believed to be in protest against the governor’s decision to dump the NNPP, a move reportedly against the wishes of Senator Kwankwaso.
One of those who resigned, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Sunusi Sirajo, announced his decision in a video posted on social media.
Sirajo said he resigned because he did not want to be associated with what he described as political betrayal, declaring his loyalty to Senator Kwankwaso.
He explained that although he had earlier submitted a formal resignation letter, it was not officially received, prompting him to make a public announcement.
In a swift reaction, the governor, through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, announced the appointment of Mustapha Hamza Buhari as the new Special Adviser on Political Matters.
Other officials who resigned include the Provost of the Anti-Corruption Institute, Sumaila Abdullahi; the Managing Director of Kano Zoo, Sadiq Kura Mohammad; and the Senior Special Assistant on Intergovernmental and Foreign Affairs, Abdullahi Ahmad Namama.
Meanwhile, NNPP flags have been removed from the Kano State Government House, a development confirmed by both video footage and observations at the seat of power.
