At least 1,000 farmers and extension agents have been trained by Kwara state government on small ruminant production and crop residue processing for improved utilization by ruminants.
Speaking at the end of the training in Ilorin, the speaker Kwara state House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi said that the programme has capacity to improve agricultural productivity in the state.
Represented by the chairman House Committee on Agriculture, Issa Gideon, the speaker said that the programme has encouraged a great number of youth, extension agents and farmers into production of small ruminants and processing of animal feeds.
He thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the state government for introducing the L-PRES project that the had increased agricultural productivity in the state.

Danladi said that the participants, drawn from all the sixteen local government areas of the state, would promote agriculture and livestock sector in the state and the country at large.
He charged the participants to make rationale utilization of knowledge acquired during the programme, noting that people need crops and livestock as sources of protein, especially, that of the small ruminants.
The lawmaker said production of small ruminants by the youth can serve as basis for building the economy .
He also advised the participants to fabricate agricultural tools and machines that were made available to them during the training programme in their various communities.
On his part, the state L-PRES coordinator, Soji Oyawoye, expressed optimism that knowledge, skills and confidence gained by the participants would help them to implement the agricultural practices in their respective communities.
He urged the trainees to share the knowledge and skills acquired with farmers, colleagues, friends, and family members.
