The Kwara State Government has commenced a study tour and capacity-building programme for livestock farmers across the sixteen local government areas of the state.
The initiative is aimed at equipping farmers with sustainable best practices in animal husbandry to improve productivity and efficiency.
Speaking during the training in Ilorin, the Commissioner for Livestock Development, Mrs. Oloruntoyosi Thomas, said the tour is designed to broaden farmers’ knowledge of modern ranching techniques and standardise good practices across the state.
She noted that the Ministry is committed to developing a modern and commercially viable livestock industry that will enhance food security and support economic diversification.
Mrs. Thomas urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve operations on their farms.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of one of the private farms visited, Mr. Tony Jibunoh, encouraged the farmers to embrace innovation and modern technology to boost yield and efficiency.
Some of the participating farmers described the tour as enlightening, commending the state government for the initiative.
The training covered areas such as animal husbandry, welfare, pasture and feed management, waste management, breeding and reproduction.
