The Chief Medical Director of Kwara State University Teaching Hospital, KWASUTH, Dr Ahmed Abdulkadir, has called for the adoption of family-based health insurance to ease the burden of medical costs and promote universal healthcare.
Dr Abdulkadir made the call while receiving members of the Platinum Friends Club, who cleared the medical bills of about ten indigent patients facing urgent financial hardship.
He stressed that charity alone cannot sustain healthcare and that widespread enrollment in health insurance, starting from the family unit, is the most practical path to universal coverage.

The Governor-General of the Platinum Friends Club, Prince Oladimeji Ladi-Thompson, said the initiative targets vulnerable residents and includes support for multiple healthcare facilities, health insurance sponsorships, and outreach programmes for widows and marginalized groups.
He encouraged other private organizations and individuals to complement government efforts in healthcare delivery, emphasizing that healthcare is a shared responsibility.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, noting that the intervention provided much-needed relief and hope to patients facing financial challenges.
