Kwara State Government in collaboration with the Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) have commenced sensitisation to create an Open Defecation-Free (ODF) environment to improve public health in the State.
Speaking during the sensitisation exercise in Ilorin, the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Lade, called for collaborative efforts of all citizens to achieve the goal.
Represented by the General Manager of the agency,Mr Olorunfemi Oladipo, the commissioner highlighted the critical need to address detrimental impact of open defecation on the health of the residents.
He commended the present administration for prioritizing sanitation initiatives targeted at protecting Kwarans.
Lade explained that the efforts in coordinating community-led sanitation programmes have resulted in achieving open defecation -Free in six communities in Oke Ero Local Government Area of the state.
The commissioner emphasized the need for further sensitization and infrastructural improvements which included, mobile toilets, and participants working together for the success of the State’s sanitation goals among others.
