Kwara State Government has warned residents against erecting structures on the water pipelines across the state.
The State Commissioner for Water Resources, Usman Yunusa Lade, gave this warning during an inspection of the major pipeline repair at Flower Garden, in Ilorin.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Christiana Asonibare, said erection of structures like residential buildings, mosques, churches and shops on the water pipelines by the people is inimical to adequate water supply across the state.”
Yunusa -Lade called on all residents to complement government’s efforts by considering water pipelines before constructing any structure in order to avoid damaging water pipes and obstructing water supply to benefitting communities.
For his part the Lead Engineer in charge of the pipeline repaired at Flower Garden, Bamidele Idowu, confirmed that the repair has been completed and shall be test-run to ensure there are no lapses.
Idowu assured that areas such as Flower Garden, Lajorin, Offa Road, Sabo-Oke, Amilengbe, Adualere, Isale-koko, Oja-Gboro, and Ipata, among others will benefit from the completion of the repair as soon as pumping of water begins.
