The Labour Party has described as strange and unacceptable the removal of the Abure-led executive from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal.
This is contained in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in Abuja.
The statement says the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, as well as INEC’s action, will not affect its preparations for the 2027 general election.
It maintains that it will challenge the lower court’s ruling at the appellate court, expressing confidence that the decision will be overturned.
According to the statement, the Party also calls on its members to remain calm, insisting that it remains committed to internal democracy and its social democratic principles.
The statement criticizes what it described as the imposition of a caretaker committee without following due process as stipulated in the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act.
It further warns against what it termed the “monetization and strangulation of democracy,” urging Nigerians to remain vigilant.
The statement expresses optimism that the appellate court will deliver justice in its favor.
