Reports that Lagos socialite and Yeye-Oge of Lagos, Chief Mrs. Opral Benson, was missing caused a stir in Nigerian media earlier this week.
The 91-year-old, originally from Liberia, was said to have left Nigeria without her family’s knowledge.
However, her biological daughter, Spencilene Precious Benson, clarified that Mrs. Benson is safe in Monrovia, Liberia, where she is visiting family and attending to personal matters.
The family confirmed that she is in good health and will return to Nigeria shortly.
Sources close to the family explained that the reports of her being missing or suffering dementia were false and stemmed from misunderstandings and internal family disagreements.
Mrs. Benson’s visit to her birthplace was made with her consent and care, and there is no cause for alarm.
Authorities and the family have warned against the spread of misinformation, calling on media and individuals to verify reports before publication.
