At least six people have been killed following attacks by suspected Lakurawa fighters in parts of Sokoto State, as the military intensified operations against terror networks across the North-West.
Acting on credible intelligence, troops launched coordinated raids on terrorist hideouts, including Bingi Forest, where a makeshift medical facility used to treat injured fighters was destroyed.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of Operation Fansan Yamma, Captain David Adewusi, said the operations were part of sustained efforts to decisively degrade terrorist networks and restore peace in the region.
Troops of Sector Two Joint Task Force also ambushed Lakurawa fighters at Kerani village along the Kebbi–Sokoto border, killing two suspects and seizing motorcycles used for mobility.
In Zamfara State, soldiers stormed Munhaye Forest, a hideout linked to bandit kingpin Kachalla Alti, rescuing sixty-two abducted persons.
The victims are currently in safe custody, with plans underway to reunite them with their families.
Meanwhile, the Sokoto State Police Command has recorded further successes, arresting several suspects linked to kidnapping, financial fraud, and extortion across Wamakko, Silame and Yabo Local Government Areas.
Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa said the arrests and recoveries demonstrate the resolve of security agencies to dismantle criminal networks and urged residents to continue providing timely information to authorities.
Security agencies say intelligence-led operations will continue as part of efforts to curb banditry and restore normalcy across the North-West.
